When you need to look incredibly stylish and sophisticated, this navy blazer and black dress pants combination is a must-have. This outfit looks complete when you pair a pair of black leather oxford shoes. Traditionally speaking, men wear black and white formal wear so that the women they are with can stand out in vibrant contrast and receive the highest accolades and attention. A black and white tuxedo is a way of looking great, but at the same time stepping out of the spotlight so that the girl you’re with can really shine.

I would steer away from red if it is a very religious, conservative wedding. However, if it is not, red is one of my favourite shoe colors to wear with a black dress and would look great as part of a Fall wedding outfit. If you have a more serious work dress code, I'd stick with simple leather & suede ankle boots in neutral colors (black/brown/tan) vs. say, sparkly disco purple or bright red. So here are the most fashionable casual, fancy and office-appropriate shoes to wear with a black dress in 2022! Of course, style is subjective & someone's ‘casual' can easily be another woman's ‘office' look . Purchasing a tux means one lapel shape, one color, one button closure style for a lot of different events.

Yes, metallics are a neutral in my eyes, especially when it comes to silver. But don't discount gold, copper or rose gold metallic hues which do well when paired with similar colored jewelry or handbags. Owning a tuxedo sounds like a crowning achievement—riding a prize stallion with no saddle or filling a personal library exclusively with leather-bound first editions. But renting a tuxedo has its benefits, too, provided the tuxedo fits. If you want a more modern, effortless look, consider ditching the vest or cummerbund altogether.

So unless the invitation specifically stipulates “black tie creative,” follow the rules above. Wearing a big metal-bracelet sports watch with a tuxedo. A dress watch should be slim and unadorned, with a black leather strap. The metal of the watch itself should match your cufflinks and shirt studs. The black tie police won’t raid your ceremony if you show up in a normal shirt, but it should at least be double-cuffed, with some decent hardware.

But, as most of us know, renting can also be a hassle. Whether you’re interested in renting or buying, just answer a few questions to dial in your sizes, order online, and we’ll deliver your tuxedo to your door—no tux shop required. A fully-canvassed, merino wool tuxedo often costs upward of $1,200. Add in the expense of alterations, and you might have rented a lot of tuxedos for less.

Rule #2: YOU SHALL NOT (NECESSARILY) WEAR BLACK

The style of white shoes most commonly worn with a black suit is sneakers. White shoes should only be worn with a black suit in smart-casual settings. The high-contrast combination will always have a casual look to it and should never be worn on formal occasions.

Suits are almost always made with a consistent fabric on both the jacket and pants—no special lapels, no satin leg stripes. And most tuxedos have silk-covered jacket buttons while suits have normal buttons. There is no need to look “matchy-matchy,” but you should think about how you can complement each other’s looks. You’re likely to attend an upscale event if she’s wearing a floor length gown. If she’s wearing a black suit or tuxedo, you’re attending an upscale event. Versatile and neutral, grey complements most other colors.

If your groomsmen wear the same outfit, your look will be the same. In this case, you are jeopardizing your own image by failing to inform the groom from a groomsman, a guest, or his father in law. The navy blue is one of the most versatile colors of blue. Because navy is a neutral color, it can be paired with almost any other neutral , as well as a variety of fun colors such as mustard, hot pink, cherry red, and orange. For a casual look, pair your navy dress with a cardigan or jacket in a contrasting color.

This isn’t to say you should never buy a tuxedo, but too often, renting gets a bad reputation because of cheap, poorly made rental suits. If the tux actually fits, renting can look pretty good. They’re only for tuxedo shirts, and are designed to fit into the buttonholes of the shirt placket. If you’re also wearing a metallic cufflink, it’s best to match metals with your button studs—gold with gold, silver with silver. The tuxedo is designed to elevate your appearance above the day-to-day suit. If you’re wearing a tuxedo, you’re probably celebrating something special.
